The History of ColorStruck: Boston’s Annual Women of Color in Comedy:
ColorStruck originated in 2000 at Rick Jenkins' Comedy Studio in Harvard Square as a one night event with 7 comics, Sandy Asai, Janet Cormier, Deb Farrar-Parkman, Bethany Van Delft, Lakshmi Balachandra, Alana Devich and Malene Welch. It was a sold out audience, and the club was forced to turn away as many people as the club held.
In 2003, by popular demand, the show expanded to two nights and two venues: the Comedy Studio and Jimmy Tingle’s OFF BROADWAY Theater. In 2004, the show officially moved to JTOB and expanded to three shows over three nights. It also gave itself a new moniker: ColorStruck: Boston’s Women of Color in Comedy.
The cast of comics is ever rotating. Some of our past performers are living in new cities pursuing comedy careers (Malene in LA, Alana and Tissa in San Francisco), some make it back for a show (Ku will be back from NYC this year) and we've made many new friends along the way (Sheila Jackson, Karith Foster, Leigh Ann Lord and Vijai Nathan).
